The Golden Hour
Every year in the UK, accidents cause:
- 15, 000 deaths. - 300, 000 serious injuries.
In many of these cases, the quality of care which the patient receives within the first 60 minutes of an accident will determine if that person lives or dies!
This crucial time is known as:
Immediate Care
Accident victims can therefore benefit from the provision of highly-skilled medical help at the scene of an incident and also whilst en route to hospital. In this way the patient can receive intensive care during the critical 'golden hour'
This is called Immediate Care and the aim is to perform life-saving treatments and stabilise the patient before transportation to hospital is even attempted. It requires co-ordinated teamwork by all members of the emergency services.
