Following events at The World Trade Centre in New York, and the current anxiety over possible Anthrax risks and other terrorist activities, PLIMS has been in close contact with both Westcountry Ambulance Service, and Derriford Hospital NHS Trust regarding our role, both as Immediate Response Doctors, and Medical Incident Officers.
We are currently reviewing all our procedures regarding communication, professional training and qualifications and many other aspects so that we are prepared, should we be required.
We have also been invited to become involved in a Mutual Aid Scheme between different BASICS Organisations in the UK - this may involve us being required in any part of the country.

On a lighter note.........

Fund-Raising News

We have been extremely lucky to have received funding from Camelot, through their Employee Matched Funding Initiative, which has boosted our earnings for recent events.

Karen Hussey, who works for Camelot in Exeter, and is a patient of one of our members, has become involved with PLIMS, and is helping with several events, including the recent PLIMS Summer Supper at The Tamar Sailing Club in Saltash Passage, Plymouth, which was boosted by an extra £447 - many thanks to Karen.

PLIMS is also indebted to The Rotary Club of Plymouth. For many years, Plymouth Rotary Club have donated a substantial sum from their Christmas Collection to PLIMS - this year around £2,500. Each year, we can be found at various locations in Plymouth on each Saturday in December helping to collect for The Rotary Club and PLIMS

PLIMS entered the Lord Mayor's Parade, starting from
Plymouth Hoe in May 2000 - thanks to Sharon, Vicki,
Richard and Edward Privett who walked (and in some
cases ran) the route distributing stickers and leaflets to
      publicise our presence.
DML Sports and Social Club donated £4,000 to PLIMS as the main beneficiary of the Plymouth Half Marathon in May 2000 - and we also provided Medical Cover for the Half Marathon in May 2001 and 2002, when we were able to support our colleagues in The St. John's Ambulance Brigade.

Our special thanks go to Hannah Prynne who managed to save all her 20p pieces for charity, and decided to donate them to PLIMS - a grand total of £17 - we are extremely grateful for this donation, and for all the effort that it must have taken to raise. Thank you Hannah!

Following a call by Tony Golding-Cook, Mrs Gwen Rees decided to donate some money for a new defibrillator - a grand total of £7,500. This is a massive donation from an individual for which we are extremely grateful.

However, without our brilliant team of fund-raisers, we would have no funds to match! Maureen Fox and her dedicated team continue to come up with brilliant fund-raising ideas - notably the Fashion Show at the Moorland Links Hotel, the Curry Lunch at The Tamar Sailing Club and the Craft Show at The Moorland Links -  all events which we hope will become annual and regular events
